The fires have cancelled our county fair that was scheduled for next week in Yreka – a disappointment to all the kids who have worked so hard all year raising their livestock and projects for 4H and FFA… But these kids are resilient and they know how serious a fire near your community is and the safety of everyone is so much more important. and thanks to a lot of scrambling and leg-work by our Junior Livestock Auction and Fair Boards… we will still hold a livestock show and auction at Jackson County Fairgrounds in Medford, Oregon next weekend. For now we are focused on feeding the frontline workers and their families (thanks to YOU and our Burgerhouse staff!) while we also care for our own animals and community. We got some much needed RAIN last night which was a true miracle and the firefighters and equipment operators are working SO hard to keep this fire from growing. We are so thankful for the weather, for the workers and for your prayers and support!!

We are so grateful for the firefighters, equipment operators and support staff fighting these monster fires to protect our communities! If you are on the fire – please come by Five Marys Burgerhouse anytime all week for a hot meal on us… And if you or someone you know has a loved one fighting this fire we’d love to send a box of Five Marys meats to thank them – and hopefully feed their fire fighter when they return home safely! Not they way we want to make headlines news all over the world… it’s been a tough night with dry thunder and lightning strikes which could turn into more fire spots tomorrow. The McKinney fire (the big one) is a monster and roaring out way and towards our neighbors in Yreka- but the firefighters and equipment operators are working so hard to fight it. Our prayers are with them and we have faith it doesn’t overtake our communities. 🙏🏼♥️

It’s that time of year around here… preparing their steers for the fair! The girls are each raising a black angus steer they choose from our herd to take to the Junior Livestock Auction for their 4H project. They have to work with these steers to go from rogue livestock to tame and controlled steers who they can walk on a halter and “fit” or bathe and brush to meet certain standards for a livestock judge. The girls have to work with them everyday all summer and then take them into the ring at the county fair for judging and to sell to a buyer for harvest. Celebrating 16 years of marriage to this handsome guy today and counting my lucky stars every one of those 5,844 days with him. When my friend @adrianaklas took this photo she said “ok Brian grab her and pull her in close for a kiss…” and he said “Absolutely. That I can do.
