Last year we had a little more snow sticking around here – it’s been a pretty mild winter! But we’re thankful for the snow and rain we’ve gotten so far. The mountains have some decent snowpack that will hopefully turn to water runoff in spring and the ground water gets recharged with any rain we get.
We irrigate our pastures with mostly our ground water pumped up into pivots or wheel lines and a little bit of flood irrigation from our community ditch that runs along all the ranches on our road. We all pay in to it and the ditch tender gives us all a turn to pull the water.
.
Our winters tend to focus on fire to keep warm but our summers are all about WATER. We can’t do much without it!
How does the passage highlight the ranch’s dependence on water for pasture irrigation, and what methods are employed for this purpose?
