Laying Sod at Five Marys!
Five hours of dirty, sweaty, manual labor later and we have INSTANT GRASS! It only took us 7 years 🙂
We have been waiting for this… we knew we needed to wait until we finished basic restoration on the big house and the test kitchen rebuild, so this was the summer that landscaping rose high enough on the priority list to get it done. Brian has been working on drainage, a sprinkler system, and prepping the soil for months (lots of ‘mature’ manure from the barns!).
We consulted with my cousins and fellow M5 entrepreneurs, DG Turf Farms, about the best way to sod around the big house and part of our little house next door. The RTF sod from Zamora Sod Farm was cut just after midnight and 7,500 square feet (15 pallets) were delivered the next morning at 5:45 AM.
We got to work as soon as the animals were fed and cared for that morning! We laid it around the 1868 homestead house, but laid pea gravel around the border as to not disturb the foundation.
We had a hard working crew of helpers from my shop, our girls, and summer interns… it went so smoothly! I just can’t believe the transformation and just want to sit here staring at it all day long. Instant gratification for sure! Check out this video of the process!
hey girl- this looks oh so cool! great job
