Welcome to the family, Gilly! If you missed it in my stories, Francie & Tess had been begging for a long-haired dachshund for their September birthdays… it’s the unofficial accessory pup for rodeo barrel racers everywhere. 😂 Brian had found this pup way before Dixie died (I was not ready for a replacement yet!) and she arrived at the last rodeo ready for her new home. She was born at high school rodeo nationals this summer in Gillette, Wyoming… so Gilly stuck (pronounced like Jilly). I got to my parents late tonight for a little book signing party tomorrow to celebrate the publication date of Five Marys Family Style cookbook! Francie is FIFTEEN! Only fitting that I’m a week late on her birthday post and it happens to be National Daughter’s Day. 💕 Francie is wise beyond her years but still making the most of her adolescent days with a contagiously upbeat attitude. She is a determined horsewoman and practices hard to improve everyday. She is and has always been a leader – she looks out for her sisters and keeps them in line and focused on making themselves the best they can be (and cleaning up after themselves ;) She tidy, self-sufficient, determined and funny. This year, she is thriving in her new Laurel Springs Academy virtual high school program and taking full advantage of the honors coursework and extra time it allows when she focuses and manages her time. She loves her horse Red and they make an impressive pair. She is accomplishing big goals in rodeo and improving her roping skills – already winning a 1st place in barrel racing at her first high school division rodeo as a freshman. Francie loves her Dad and will always find time to do chores or ride around in the truck with him. She’s sweet and kind and patient to her mom which I very much appreciate. 😊 I just can’t believe it’s been 15 years of Francie! How lucky are we. ♥️ @francieheff #m5maryfrances #m5birthdays

Tess is TEN!! 🌟 How did that happen so fast!? The baby of the family came in with a bang with a scary birth and NICU stay and tear duct surgery at a few months old…. she was born two days before Francie turned 5 and everyone was so excited for a new baby in the family. Tess is spunky, independent, funny, sassy and kind-hearted. She loves animals especially those that need extra love. She is loyal to her family and cares about her friends. She’s fierce and strong too. She can ride and rope like nobody’s business (just ask her sisters who are nervous for the day she competes against them in junior high rodeo) and you can’t tell her there’s something she can’t do because guess what… she’ll do it! We love everything about you Tessa- you keep us smiling, laughing, on our toes and always loving YOU for just who you are. There’s just something about Miles. ✨ He’s a shining star in all of our lives, has been JJ’S best bud since they were pre-schoolers and he quickly won over my parents’ hearts last week staying at their house while he got started with a clinical trial at Stanford Hospital. He and his mom Joy returned home to the news that the clinical trial MRI showed excessive growth of the tumors since the last scan and they are focused on quality of life with this devastating news. Last night Miles went to a Journey cover band concert and was up on stage singing his heart out to “Don’t Stop Believin” in front of a packed house at the Expo. His spirit is as unstoppable and unmatchable as ever. Miles – we won’t stop believing in you!!! Please pray with us for Miles and his sweet family. The Little Sister Club is rolling back into action as we start the California high school rodeo season this weekend. Our district allows 5th-12th graders to compete in a junior high and high school divisions (Francie bumps up to HS this year!!) so these two 4th graders get one more year of fun running rough shod around the rodeo grounds and claiming queens of the dirt piles and locust trees and snack shacks.
