7 years ago… I had no idea what I’d gotten myself into going from a comfortable suburban life to a learn-as-you-go ranching life, raising livestock (and chickens and turkeys, oh my) in a tiny cabin in a very small rural town, with four barefoot kids running wild in the dirt. We’ve learned a lot and grown a lot… but I’m so thankful for those early days/years on the ranch… and thankful my four much bigger little girls still run around barefoot in the dirt!

When this girl gang was a few feet shorter and our chickens still laid buckets of eggs. The girls are taller now and the chickens are old and cranky and hide all of their eggs if they are even still laying. 🥚 Good thing Tess is raising a new crop of chickens to keep us fed and baking! 🍳

It’s always bittersweet to close up the camp kitchen after a summer of warm nights entertaining on the hill. We hosted some @m5entrepreneurs retreats up there this summer and spent many ranch date nights enjoying the view together. We didn’t cook up there as much as we did arena side this summer… but the nights we did had the same camp magic it’s always had. We’re hosting one more event this weekend – an all-staff team Five Marys dinner to celebrate the changing of seasons and 1-year of Five Marys Custom Meat Co! Until next year camp…. #campfivemarys

Loving this view at the rodeo ✨ I caught up on my “stack” of @yearlycompany bangles this week with 17 beautiful gold bangles to signify my wedding day plus 16 years of marriage! Each bangle tells a story – some are passed down from my grandmother MaryJane who died young but started this tradition with my grandfather, from my two angel aunts in heaven Kaky & Chris who passed their stacks on to those they loved – and the rest made by my talented sister and her company that honors and shares our family tradition, Yearly Co. I added the five diamond decade bangle to represent my five favorite people and my bookend daughters turning TEN and 15 this year – and the soon-to-be released WAVY bangle to represent the ups and downs of life as a reminder that it always looks up after a hard day or year! My bangles hold up to the rough wear of ranching, I never take them off and they just bend and shape with my lifestyle (they bend right back to round on the top of a wine bottle!) the beauty of solid, 14k, well-made gold jewelry thanks to my sister and her team! My Dad calls himself “Mr Lucky” for marrying my mom – but we are the lucky ones to have them both as parents! From my 7th grade “Mary’s Summer Fun Camp” backyard babysitting business where my mom put up with me having 15 extra kids running around the backyard half the summer and my Dad coming home from work on Friday’s to bbq for the parents talent show… To 30 years later, hosting my sister and I and our businesses in the same backyard for a book signing and jewelry pop-up for our friends and customers! Francie and Maisie got to spend last week in Burns, Oregon cowboy-big with Uncle Donald and his crew everybody morning at dawn and cooking and building a new business with Aunt Kat for @doverspikebeef. The perks of doing alternative school programs and having the best Aunt & Uncle! Francie rode the sagebrush mountains with the cowboys every day and Maisie split her time riding, baking, cooking and helping Kat assemble her truckload of shipping tables and supplies to start selling @doverspikebeef direct to customers! Donald is a fifth generation OREGON cattle rancher and we are all glad he married Brian’s sister Katherine. He’s helped us out since we started raising cattle and it’s always fun to have so much to talk about (and have Donald know all the answers to our questions!) I’m so excited for Kat to start selling their family ranch raised beef too. Now we have even more reasons to get together for “work” and workshops!
